Photos exported using "sequential" is exporting photos randomly.

The update to macOS 10.15.2 (released on December 10, 2019) has fixed the problem with the sorting of exported photos presumably, so the usual "Filename: sequential" or "Filename: Album Name with number" are finally working in Catalina like in the previous system versions, without having to resort to work-arounds. Anyone, who still has problems with exporting the photos from an album with filenames numbered according to the position in the album, should update to macOS 10.15.2.

When I use the "sequential" export option, the photos will now be sorted by the capture date instead of the order in the album.

As a work-around you could prefix the title of the photo with a running number, then export the photos with the title as the filename. This should get them sorted properly in the Finder.

To change the titles you may want to use an Apple Script like this one: Batch Change Title to Text w/Padded Sequential Numbers

This export order issue still has not been resolved in Photos version 5.0 (111.16.180) on Catalina 10.15.1

Photos still exports photographs in a completely random order and absolutely not according to the order of the arranged album in question

This is unarguably a rather serious bug

Interesting related observation: I started using the sequential export feature when the "slideshow" feature wouldn't keep my photos in order. Now the slideshow *does* keep them in order, but the sequential export does not. Apple really needs to fix this.

Okay, I tried this method and I can confirm that the system works. Link is still good, and photos export sequentially. Hopefully our benevolent corporate overlords at Apple will fix this issue, but until then this is the only work-around that has worked for me.

When I export an album, since I updated to Catalina, the order of photos is random despite selecting “sequential”. This is observed by the number appended to the filename.  This never occurred before. The problem surfaces when I import those photos into a photo server, because all the photos are in the wrong order. This results in a huge waste of time manually correcting the problem, changing the order for hundreds of photos on the server.

Wow! This is really the only working solution and a time saver! It is embarrassing Apple has not yet fixed such an evident bug with all that army of software engineers that they employ.

Are you saying that the file names are not in order or that the image location in the list of files in the album is not maintained in the export, i.e. the 5th image in the album which should have -5 tacked on to it has some other number at the end?

It works as advertised for me. The images as represented in the album are in the same order in the folder they are exported to. However, that folder is, by default, set to sort by title-ascending, the same as the album in the library.

I am so happy they fixed it! Tried it out, works fine! Took them only half a year since I reported it in Catalina beta version this summer!
