Catalina, MacHD encrypted

I had problems with downloading Catalina and had to go back to High Sierra (and wipe my laptop in the process). Now when I try and install Catalina it says it cannot because the Mac HD is encrypted. Can anyone help with how to resolve?

If the drive had been encrypted via FileVault, then you can decrypt it before you attempt to upgrade to macOS Catalina again.
