Tickbox conditional highlighting

I created many tables with checkboxes and it would be nice to highlight them in red when unchecked and in green when checked.

Since there’s no such option in the conditional highlighting panel as a workaround I created a condition where “if text is true fill green” and “if text is false fill red”.

It worked until the last app update, after which even if the conditions were retained and actually met, the cell won’t be highlighted and my tables are still in good shape, but I can’t see the whole picture in the blink of an eye.

Does anyone know a way to bring this highlighting back? I tried to Google it but no hint!

I had to select Numbers for Mac as topic, just because there’s no “Numbers for iOS” (or iPadOS) topic.

I tried to re-create the issue but it “works” only in spreadsheets I’ve been workin on, regardless of the device (whether iPad, iPhone o MBP). Today I was working on a spreadsheet while an app message lit up my mind and here’s how.

In many tables on my spreadsheets I include a column for remarks: those cells are formatted for plain text. Since I use those spreadsheets for monitoring activities that I do in my own country I always got words underlined in red, given that the formatting used by those spreadsheets didn’t match the primary language used in them. In order to address this issue I changed the format from the original English to Italian (the language which I usually type in these files): I didn’t do it earlier because when I created the spreadsheet it was my first experience with the Numbers app and later on I wasn’t able to switch to the Italian formatting because the spreadsheet was shared by using the collaboration feature which doesn’t allow to change the format.

That said, I tried to change the words “true” and “false” with their respective translations in Italian and guess what…the conditions now re-highlight my cells as I expected!

Try this, I set a column (that I will hide afterwards) that just has all checkboxes, checked.

Then the conditional highlight rule is if the current cell is equal to (under the numbers conditional group) that check box on that row in the (soon to be ) extra column.

set another for when the current cells value is not equal to the extra check box value

Hi Streeme,

You set up your conditional highlighting just like I would have. I am not sure why it is not still working for you. I am not haveing any problem with it. I am using Pages 5.2 in iOS 13.1.2. You might try trashing your current rules and redoing. Maybe the file got corrupted.

Tried to trash and reset them up but it won’t work. Tried to re-create rules in a new table and won’t work. Also tried to apply the same rules in a new table in a different file, but same issue.

I changed everything I could, aside the device!

Did you try uninstalling Numbers and reinstalling? (making sure, of course, that you have a backup of your Numbers documents if you don't already have them on iDrive or somewhere other than in local storage on your iPad).
