Audible app message that “paired watch not responding.”

Trying to download Audible book to new series 5 watch. Watch and phone are not on airplane mode, and I have tried re-pairing the phone and watch several times. Watch is paired to phone, but message is that the watch is not responding. Both devices are updated with latest software. Any other ideas?
