iPhone 11 Pro Live Photo’s don’t move

My Wife and I both have iPhone 11 pros, and the Live Photo’s we take on the phone do not move when you swipe between photos? My old live photos from all my other phones still move when you swipe between them in iOS 13, which makes me think it is an 11 pro issue. It does take a Live Photo, so when you press and hold the 3 sec or so of video plays, but swiping between photos does not do anything but show stills. Does anyone else have this issue? Was this a change to the phone or iOS? Seems like Apple wouldn’t take away a feature for a phone called pro, and it was one of my favorite.

Hmmm. You gave me some hope. So, I went to my Live Photos folder (I have nearly 4000) and none of the Live Photos taken with my iPhone 11 Max Pro preview ... only those taken with my iPhone 7 Plus preview. I understand from the Apple tech that called me that this feature is phone dependent. Preview does not work on iPhone 11 via swipe. You must now press the photo or Live icon ... and who will do that??? This is an awful misstep. Plan to return my phone tomorrow and downgrade if that gets this capability back.

I also have an iPhone 11 Pro. Based on your post, I just went into my Photos > Albums > Live Photos and swiped left to right from Live Photo to Live Photo. Indeed I did observe the Live Photo motion.

So if you've been through this same scenario and do not see the motion, then perhaps it be good to visit an Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Center, demonstrate this behavior, and see what they advise.

Yes! It's an absolutely awful change. Live Photo pictures taken with iPhone 11 no longer preview. Even with Auto-Play On for Videos and Live Photos. After resetting my phone twice per Apple Tech advice, as I was convinced it was an issue with the phone, a third tech called and just informed me that the auto preview feature is no more on iPhone 11! Can you believe that? Who wants to press every photo to see the Live Photo. It was a one of the best features. Will return the phone tomorrow and downgrade if that gets the capability back.

I think you actually mean the following:

When going to the Live Photos area, even using an iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro, swiping into Live Photos taken with iPhones earlier than iPhone 11 does reveal motion, while swiping on iPhone 11 or iPhone 11 Pro photos in that area does not reveal the motion.

I believe this statement reflects what I observe as well.

I was worried this was the case. I actually return my 1st iPhone 11 Pro, because I thought it was broken because of this. The Apple store employee didn't know the feature was taken away, and thought my phone was broken also. I am going to see if I can still return the new phone that I got now. The camera isn't that much better the my old iPhone Xs, and I don't really need a wide angle lens. This was a horrible mistake by Apple and I have no idea why they would take away this feature. You have no way of knowing that it is a live photo if you in your photos or a photo stream, and are selected into the photo with the black space above and below, because the live photo icon is not there. You have to press on every photo to see if it is live. Horrible.

I had the same issue and I love seeing my photos come to life. But I believe I may have found the solution!

In the Camera app, you'll see a ^ icon in the middle just below the notch. Tap on that to bring up the camera controls (can also be achieved by swiping up in the viewfinder). Now tap on the Live Photo icon and change it from Auto to Live On. After thats done, try taking a photo and swipe to it in the Photos app!

I'm with Verizon (though I really like Google Fi ... unfortunately, not optimized with ios, of course). My Software version is 13.1.3. iPhone 11 Pro Max. Simply can't get any Live Photos taken on this phone to preview on swipe. Will take back to Apple store to see if they have any clues. But again, an Apple tech rep called me and stated the capability is no longer supported with the 11. fwiw. c

Or more reasonably wait for a software update. At this point you’ve determined the issue to be purely software and downgraded to the old phone, only for a future software update to be released that brings the feature back.

Well it looks like exactly that happened after reading ahead but this isn’t just hindsight...

A similar thing happened with iOS 11 or 12 where they removed FaceTime photos as an option until a point update. Sometimes things are removed from the base OS to be reintegrated when it’s more stable.

There is also Apple.com/feedback to request features be returned.

It’s everyone’s own time to use it as they see fit, but in the future I suggest patience or submitting feeeback. Maybe wait a few months after the device release to see what early adopters are dealing with, or live with it until updates come out to repair broken features. Or return the device of course.

I’m curious if those that returned devices for this ended up buying again.

When Phil introduced Live Photo’s for the 1st time he literally said, “When you go into your photo roll, and swipe across them, you see a little bit of a moment of vitality. A sense of how alive they are”. As he said this, they showed the photos moving when you swipe between them on the screen behind him. So I would say 100% yes, they did advertise it that way.

Either way, I am not concerned with what was advertised. I want to know why all the other live photos, taken on all my phones since the iPhone 6s still move in iOS 13 when you swipe between them, but the photos taken on my 11 pro do not. Was the feature removed for some reason? Is anyone else having this issue?
