Connect to network drive at login

All the answer I have found to this question are years ago. When I try to follow them (drag the desktop icon to the Login area on Users) I become unstuck because there is no desktop icon. I have dried dragging the icon in the Finder sidebar but it just springs back when I release the mouse.

Is there a way to do this in Catalina?

TIA

In the titlebar of the window there is a little icon. Try dragging that to the Login Items.

You can also just click the + button and browse for the mounted volume to add it.

The SideBar icons are not items to use. They are pointers to the item they represent.

You are on the right track. You are missing one step.

1: Activate the Finder

2: From the Finder menu, choose Preferences...

3: On the General tab, check the box "Connected servers"

This will show connected server volumes on the Desktop. Now follow the process you already know. Open System Preferences > User & Groups > select your account > click on the Login Items tab. Then drag and drop the network volume into the startup items list box.

Reboot or logout/login to confirm function.
