passcode issue after recent update

After the recent update my iPhone X will not recognize my passcode, I am entering it correctly and I did not forget it. It is definitely due to the update. Can I stop a self destruct by not turning my phone on until it is fixed? Can I recover the 5000 photos I have on my phone without iCloud which I turned off awhile back because of another update that caused everyone on my iTunes to get everyone else’s recent call list. I have been an iPhone user since 3 came out, I am seriously considering trying something different since Apple seems to be struggling with the software.

If you have backed up the iPhone to a computer and try to recover the password using that computer the phone will back itself up once before erasing in its quest to recover lost password
