Severe battery drain, iOS 13.1.3, iPad Pro

Any suggestions?

I am experiencing severe battery drain, iOS 13.1.3, iPad Pro. In Settings>Battery, Safari is shown to be the biggest drain by far (BY FAR!). Have been going from 100% after unplugging charger to less than 50% in two hours of morning use (between 7:00 and 9:00am). At the rate of drain, will have zero left before noon. I use Safari to read articles/morning news...not watching battery consuming videos (but even if I were, this performance would be atrocious and unacceptable). Have performed all the “fixes” I found listed online thus far: install the latest iOS with its “battery fix,” wait (did so for days!) for app updates to “catch up,” lower screen brightness, turn off background app refresh, close apps (and rebooted), minimize open tabs in Safari (usually only have two open at any one time, but also erased history/data and rebooted), etc. Nothing helps. There is a serious problem and it doesn’t appear to be a setting. Thank you for any suggestions.

Perhaps I am incorrect, however, before updating to to IPadOS 13, I never experienced battery drain when I closed the cover. I could leave it for days and not experience power loss. Now I lose 50% overnight when there is no activity.

I am convinced something has changed, and judging by the large number of other people complaining about the same thing, I think I am correct.

Victor99: it’s doubtful that turning off “update apps in the background” will do anything. I turned that feature off months ago when this battery-drain flaw first appeared. In fact, I did ALL the suggested changes for dimming the screen, shutting down processes, turning off features, etc. None of it worked. It will be interesting to see if you experience a better outcome. But don’t hold your breath.

i have something similar. Bug only hit me when I recently upgraded to 13.6....what a bad move that was iPad Pro 3rd Generation. Battery drain now goes from 100% to 78% overnight with nothing running. The iPad is clean, no apps apart from the ones I cannot delete. Everything is turned off. I’ve restored this thing multiple times. Apples diagnostics confirmed it’s not the battery.

I get about 40 minutes now on a full charge. Apple is no help. Blaming the battery and telling me to get it repaired even though the battery was fine until 13.4. They did however offer to locate the nearest apple service center for me.

apple is not going to admit any wrongdoing with the iOS update battery drain issue. Just writing this post used 10%. My iPad now must be plugged in at all times when using. What a sham.

12 months on from the original post I have the same issue on my iPad Pro, with Safari burning the battery like a pyromaniac at a gas station. Chrome and Firefox on iPadOS seem to be far more power efficient.

I’m really sorry to say it but Apple have really dropped the ball here.

On MacOS the opposite is correct, Safari is the most power efficient browser and Chrome is a joke.

I have the same issue with my iPad, with no apps doing background refresh. Apple can’t be trusted with updates, it used to last for weeks without the need for an update. It’s never charged when I want to use it now. Won’t be getting an Apple tablet again, I already got turned off their MacBook Pro’s. Next it’ll be the iPhone and I’ll finally be Apple free.

Every time Apple updates system new problems are introduced. I wanted to wait to update my ipad but was hounded till it was updated

Now besides battery problem two other problems were introduced. My ipad no longer rings for facetime even though I now carry both together. Directions on Help were so convoluted that it was impossible to follow.

in addition, as I am reading NYT, the page jumps to another page right in middle of article.

Is this Apple plan to sell more merchandise. K

So my iPad is now dead. Battery lasts 20 minutes if I’m lucky. Updated to 14 and watched as apple put the final nail in the coffin. Even plugged in the battery loses power. This is a direct result of iOS 13. Even when turned off the battery drains quickly.

ios 12 saw no battery loss, was able to use all day. I know that blaming apple for anything is not allowed but with the final few moments left on my battery before it dies I thought I would say. Thanks apple.

Personally, I have not heard of an instance that a battery replacement has resolved this specific issue. However, posters here tend to be the ones that can’t get their problems resolved.

I HAVE heard of numerous cases of this battery issue that a battery replacement did NOT fix the problem.

My only advice would be to perform a full factory reset and DO NOT restore from an iCloud or iTunes/Mac ‘hard’ backup. It is a huge pain, but some have had success.

Best of luck!

As I read over my previous post and many others it was interesting to me that Apple did not reply at all, just leaving users stew. Apple products used to be user friendly, simple and elegant. Steve Jobs would be disappointed.

"That's been one of my mantras - focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it's worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains." Jobs
