Podcast playlist

I travel a lot and like to listen to podcasts. Much like one does with music, it is great to be able to make your own playlist. For years I have made podcast playlists to listen to in the car while driving (different episodes from different podcasts subscriptions). A while back, Apple took away the ability to transfer a playlist of podcasts made in iTunes to the latest iPhones. Now with Catalina, they have taken away the ability to do this in Apple Podcasts. The only option I have is to not upgrade and to continue to use iTunes. I also have to use older devises (in my case iPods) in order to get the playlists to transfer. I surely can't be the only person who wants to or would want to do this. I would appreciate Apple addressing this.

I have more than 15 years of podcasts in my Library. Many are cherished episodes that are no longer available anywhere except my library. Many more are, and have been, a part of my daily life for years. I upgraded to Catalina because everything I read and heard about Catalina was "if you have podcasts, all your podcasts will be there," same for books and music. Well, none of my podcasts migrated over to the Podcast app. None.

Even more depressing, here is a list of the things I can no longer do with my podcast app (though it's also true for Books and to a lesser degree, Music):

I can't create playlists from current podcasts. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't create playlists from older podcasts. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't create playlists that are a mixture of different podcasts. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't select, drag and drop podcasts to my devices. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't see what is downloading and the progress of those downloads. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't add my own personal files to the Library. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't change file formats if needed. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't select use home sharing in a way that's meaningful to me. (Formally available in iTunes.)

I can't configure the user interface in podcasts to show me the metadata I like to see at a glance. (Formally available in iTunes.)

All the functionality that made iTunes useful and fulfilling to real users has disappeared over the years, bit-by-bit. It's now an app for toddlers. That's how it looks and feels.

Synching is the feature that needed to go away. Why must Synching erase everything previously saved on my devices before it will install anything else? It's extremely limited in its options, not mention it's one-directional. Many "experts" claimed how great it was that synching moved to the finder. But it's NOT the finder at all — it's a synching window accessed at the finder level. It has NO FINDER FUNCTIONALITY. It's a synching sandbox in a finder window. Useless.
