CW App on apple tv 4k error

After every group of commercials plays the app shuts down with an error message - "Error: Playback has stalled out. nil". when i go back to the show I have to re-watch the commercials and often it doesn't start back up where it left off. i'm using the apple tv 4k with the latest software for both the apple tv and the cw app - i've reset the apple tv but nothing i seem to do works. it used to be fine until i updated to the latest tv os.

It's definitely related to the HomePods. I disconnected them (I use 2 in stereo mode with the Apple TV 4k) and was able to watch the CW shows w/o incident. Apple never updated them when they went to iOS 13.

This happens on a lot of TV streaming apps since the OS upgrade, but the behavior is different on each app. For example, on the AMC app it speeds through about 6 minutes forcing the viewer to rewind - it does not end in an error though. But the timing of the weird behavior is always after the commercials on all the apps. Seems to be so common across different apps it seems more an Apple thing rather than the app makers.
