I've managed to get file-sharing organised between two of my computers. But...

If I connect to my Air from my iMac, it shows four folders: main account, main account public folder, hard drive and... aluminium.

If I click on alumimium I can see the usual sub-folders, Desktop, Downloads, etc. I can send files from the iMac to the Mac Air and the other way around as well.

But on the Air machine, no mention of aluminium appears. Search reveals nothing, nor a search for a file that I've copied to aluminium from the iMac. (Sorry about the complication).

I've re-started both machines, and that's about the limit of my technical ability.

Any bright ideas?

Thank you,

Ian Oliver.

I'm not 100% sure what issue you're experiencing based on your description and use of words like aluminum. Is aluminum the name of a folder, storage device, or the name given to the MacBook Air or iMac? Additional info would be helpful. I suspect that it's a 'simple' sharing setup issue, but that's hard to determine without further information. Here's an Apple article that may provide some helpful info on how to properly set up sharing so that you see the volumes, folders, and files you expect to see.

If sharing files is new to you it might be worthwhile contacting Apple for some additional assistance.

Many thanks for that. Aluminium (with a small 'a') seems to be the name of a folder. It contains sub-folders that appear like the sub-folders in the normal (home) account, but are all empty. At least, they were empty until I started putting things in them to try to track down the cause of it all.

A friend suggested I simply re-install Mojave. I don't have much in the way of files on the Air machine, so it would be an easy solution. If it works! I shall probably do that this afternoon.

Thank you muchly,

Ian Oliver.
