Authentication pin prompt for Apple ID not showing after Catalina install

I can't get the pin prompt to show on my iMac when trying to sign in with my Apple ID. I just downloaded Catalina. I got the pin sent to me via my trusted device and wrote it down but on the computer I just installed Catalina on the prompt to enter the authentication pin never comes up. Instead it just says an "unknown error occurred". Any ideas?

Hi there, JfromVC.

I see that you're unable to sign in with your Apple ID on your iMac that you upgraded to macOS Catalina. The verification window never opens to enter the code, and you get an unknown error message instead. I'm glad to help.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac -- Restart your Mac in safe mode and see if the verification window opens. If it works while in safe mode, reboot normally and test the issue again in your own user account.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac -- If the issue is also happening in safe mode, use this article to create and test a new administrative user account. This will demonstrate if the issue is isolated to your account, or if it's system wide.

Let me know how that goes, and take care!
