Two-Step Authentication issue when trying to download Catalina

When I go to the Apple Store to get Catalina, it ask for my two-step authentication code. However, it never gives me a place to put the code. I've tried putting the code in the password bar, that doesn't work. Putting my password in only triggers a reset. any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

If you see a password box, enter the password (ABC) followed by the code (123) or ABC123 (no spaces).

I have a vague memory of someone saying something about putting the password and the code both in the password box. You might play around with the order and whether it needs a space between them.
