A Device Attached To The System Is Not Functioning

Hello,

Recently I've been trying to free up some storage on my iPhone; thus, upon trying to copy my videos from my iPhone to my PC I get this error message as stated in the title. Occasionally, it successfully copies some videos and fails to copy the rest and if I attempt to do so again it fails to copy even a video, giving me the error message instantly. Consecutively, I have to restart my iPhone in order to do the process again, which gets really frustrating.

The issue resolves only and only when I head to Setting=> Photos=> Change my transfer option to keep original from automatic.

However, when I perform these changes my videos can not be played on my PC due to the "format" iPhone uses to compress it's videos.

I record tons of videos on my iPhone while traveling and it fills up really quick and I could barely free up any storage due to this error.

Currently I am holding on to my iPhone 7+ and using Windows 10.

Please comment below if you have any solution.

Thanks

Windows, Windows 10

Dear Jargo,

I've stated how you could overcome this issue if you're using Windows. Apple has been using HEVC and HEIF format since iOS 11, which some PC's can't read/open, but you could change how you want to transfer your videos to your PC.

If you want to just simply free up some storage on your phone for now, please do as below:

Head to Setting=> Photos=> Change transfer to Mac or PC from automatic to keep original

But the issue starts when you want to open your files on your Windows. They just simply don't open!
