OS Catalina, short battery life on MacBook Pro 15" - 2016

I just updated to Catalina 10.15.04: Here is my battery status as I make this post:

I have a MBA 2017, I was running MacOS HS until I decided to upgrade.

So far I do not see any battery drain problem for my laptop and the performance is the same.

What I did to prepare the update:

1. I updated all my apps to latest version before updating the OS.
2. I checked if all the apps are 64bits and uninstalled the 32bits apps.
3. I charged my battery and left my Mac on the charger. The process took around 1 hour to complete.

I had no issues with the previous upgrades until Catalina 10.15.1 - literally as my laptop was upgrading, the battery life started draining and I could feel the heat coming off my device.

I think rolling back from Catalina is the only option.. I cant believe how much my battery life has reduced.

10.15.1 dont mention anything about battery so im not going to update. wish i never updated to Catalina in first place. new morning & woke up to 38% from full charge last night.

I'm also having the same problem with my 15 inch MacBook Pro 2017 edition. I updated to 10.15.1 and the battery life seems to be a tiny bit better, however it is not close to Mojave. I got 8 hours of battery in Mojave with same usage and behaviour and now I'm only getting max 3-4 hours. Apple have to fix the battery problem!

I own a 2018 MacBook Pro (w/ the Touch Bar) and I am also having issues with the battery. I have never had issues with the battery life until I upgraded the software a few days ago. Since then my battery life has really shortened and I can't believe how quickly it can go from 98% to 40% - in a matter of minutes. I would like to know how to address this issue. I just completed a SMC reset but I notice no changes. I have been worried about this because I use my Mac for everything school-related. Any advice would help.

its obvious that its Catalina update but Apple still hasnt put out update to fix it. this is the way Apple works. Force device updates that drain battery forcing to get new device. Tired of waking up to a battery with 30-40% after putting it to sleep night before at 100%!

FIX IT APPLE!

Seriously, are we sitting ducks now? There has been no hint that Apple has acknowledged this issue. Will the next update undo this battery damage, or is it going to continue this way? At least if Apple would respond as to which background process is taking such a toll on our existing battery life!

If anyone has gone to Apple Care and found a solution, please update here.

I spoke to an Apple "Advisor" a few days ago about this widespread problem with Catalina. She acted like she knew nothing about the issue. Hard to believe!! But she said she would report it and get back to me. Yeah, right. I haven't heard a word. So frustrating!

Just tried it.

However, my issue is with the overall quickened battery drain and not just during sleep. In fact, I don't have that 'massive drain while sleeping' problem at all.

So even after this terminal command, which aims to fix the sleep drain issue, my low battery life still remains.

Guess I'll comment on his video to see if he has another fix.

Same problem. No issues with my Mac for the last 4 years. Now all of the sudden after 10.15.2 it’s dying every 5 minutes. **** apple. First they broke my iPhone and iPad with the new ios and now this. Tim Cook needs to fire some people now.

Unfortunately, it would appear the the Apple Board of Directors don’t have any metric for customer service. If they did, Mssrs. Cook et al would be looking for other jobs. Good thing Apple technologies are not used as critical components in aircraft.

Apple computers used to be of excellent quality and excellent user experienced. But at some point they gave up being Apple and became Lenovo wannabees. It started with the system freezes on MacBook Retinas (in 2015, something I had not seen since the BSODs in Windows years ago), then they replaced the magsafe power connectors with fragile USB C in order to get an easy buck from chargers, then this Catalina OS, where the battery drain is not the only issue. I just discovered that the Photo application (which replaces iPhoto) reorganizes the photo library in a way that makes it really difficult to access manually. Not to mention built-in physical obsolescence - the rubber burder around the screen peels off after 3 years of use, and one of the 4 feet has fallen. At some point it will become less likely for me to spend time convincing my employer to buy me hardware that's twice as expensive as other employees', especially if the qualities I'm using to convince them - reliability, durability - aren't really there...

BTW.. when did we lose the ability to edit our own posts in here?.. It's been a while since I've been here, but unless I'm missing something, I don't see an edit button..interesting.. I did the pulldown and edited this reply, but my earlier one does not give that option...
