Yes. Microsoft Office earlier than 2016 is 32 bit and not compatible with Catalina. One must upgrade the Office files to either 2016, 365 subscription or 2019.
Be aware that the Apple iWork apps, Pages, Numbers and Keynote, can open, edit and save Office files. There's a free, open office app, LibreOffice, which can do the same. They all can save as an Office file as well as in their own format.

Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote cannot edit or save Microsoft documents. They open and translate the original Microsoft document into the internal Pages, Numbers, or Keynote document formats without altering the original Microsoft document.
One must reverse the translation process on export to generate a new Microsoft Office document, that may or may not appear the same in Apple or Microsoft applications, and may vary in appearance from the original opened Microsoft document.
