iTunes Issue: Running PLEX causing creation of duplicate iTunes .tmp files

I recently installed Plex, which I find has a better music interface on my AppleTV; but I still use iTunes to rip my CD's, organize and tag my files, load my iPod, etc. The problem is that Plex, I think, is also using my iTunes library file, and this apparently is causing iTunes to repeatedly generate duplicate .tmp files -- not just periodically, but repeatedly throughout the day. And as I have a massive library, each of these files is quite large, causing my hard drive to keep filling up.

Has anyone encountered this issue and identified a solution (other than turning off Plex)? Thanks.

Is iTunes set to generate an iTunes Library XML file? Do you have any third party anti-virus software? If iTunes isn't making the XML then third party apps have to talk directly to iTunes to read the library. Sometimes anti-virus software disturbs the way that iTunes updates its library file, causing the generation of .tmp files. Perhaps this is exacerbated if another application tries to open and close iTunes for programmatic access rather than it being opened normally by the user. If possible exclude the iTunes folder from real-time antivirus scanning.
