Scratched the iPhone 4 screen with a rock, now I have rainbow lines

So I had the iPhone 4 in the same pocket with a rock, don't ask why. A few mins later, I horrifically realized this, and took the iPhone out. My worst fear had been realized, as it had scratches all along the lower part of the screen. Now, when the screen is on and I'm looking at something which is one or two colors, I can see rainbow lines caused by the scratches. They are really bothersome, and they are making me real sad.

So what should I do? Anyone got a solution? Or am I screwed?

Thanks!

Come on guys, give zama a break. Maybe that rock is on the end of an engagement ring for his girl. Or maybe he walks in a neighborhood with a lot of mean dogs. Could be that an Android user put it there. Maybe it is his pet rock. How do you think the rock feels now.

Don't dispair zama. The folks here are just poking a little fun at you. They probably see that you are a Windows 7 user. Amongst the humor there will be some legitimate suggestions and solutions so hang in there.

Here's a couple of tips. I, like you, carry my iP4 in my pockets also. But,

1) I make sure that the front screen is always against my leg/body for added protection. I can't tell you how many times I've been hit by a shopping cart, or someone carrying something that has narrowly missed my phone. At least only the back would have been scratched. (Another reason to use a case.)

2) I make sure that absolutely nothing else is in that pocket but my iP4. No coins. No dollars.....no rocks.

3) I never ever ever put my iP4 in my back pants pocket or a shirt pocket. That's inherently dangerous.

4) I make sure that there is no way to 'flex' the iP4 itself while in my pocket. Give it plenty of room in that pocket. In other words, no tight pants or shirt pockets that could squash the iP4 when you bend over or squat down, etc. Even though the iP4 is very stout, you certainly don't want to test whether or not you could cause an intermittent problem with the connections inside by flexing or warping the enclosure. There're the worst to troubleshoot.

Good luck repairing your iP4. If you have to have the display replaced then I hope everything goes well.

Later...

Try paper in the same pocket, the scissors. If the damage seems greater with either attempt, explain this to a Genius at the Apple Store. They are very understanding of pocket-rock-carrying folks who damage an unprotected iPhone. In fact, there's an app for that.

Best post of this thread yet. 🙂

However, don't most people prefer their pet rocks smooth these days. I hear it is all the rage with the 18 to 30 crowd.

Perhaps the OP would have better success with this...until it tries to break OUT of his screen.
