I want to share an album of photos with someone using iCloud, but I do not want to upload my entire photo collection to iCloud, only select ones. Is it possible to do that, or must I upload my entire collection?

As if you select massive photos , the sharing will occur but it will take hours to sync the complete photos inside the album as high network speed is essential ( so always prefer selecting photos in less number ) , if the photo library is huge you can create a new shared album , but let the first album be completed shared then share the next named album .
