Since upgrading to Catalina Apple Music is autofilling my iPhone. I can't find any way to switch this off. Can anyone help?

By default, your Mac syncs your device whenever you connect it. To confirm that you want to sync whenever you connect, select General in the button bar, then deselect “Automatically sync when this [device] is connected.”

Other than all that if you’re subscribed to Apple Music it uses sync library and everything syncs across devices and is all stored in iCloud ( it consumes your iCloud storage) and it all shows up. it’s not using your iPhone storage.
Music you download onto your phone takes up iPhone storage space.
keep in mind though, that music not downloaded from Apple .Music needs to be streamed to play and this will eat through your data usage plan through your phone carrier. Unless you can use free wifi. In this scenario you might want Cellular Data turned off.
You can manage your iPhone space for anything else in settings- General - iPhone storage . Delete what you don’t need.
This is music loaded into itunes /music by myself.
I've unsubscribed from Apple Music because of it's habit of replacing my versions /artwork with inferior ones/
I like to upload the music from Itunes / music onto my phone.
Which is difficult if the app is filling up your storage as soon as you plug it in.
