"Other" storage taking up a lot of Hard Drive space

My hard drive is nearly full. I have done everything to clear my mac. As you can see most storage is taken up by "other". I have looked online already which recommended me to clear caches and other hidden files but I cannot seem to find any large files that would add up to 85 GB. Any idea what could take up so much storage?

"other" tends to include files for which there is not an obvious home. Some research will show you the file types are are likely to be included. These may be files you want, such as zip files, dmg files, and other hard to categorise files.

What if they are files you want and need?

There is a decent article How to free up storage space on your Mac which will head you in the right direction

Because of limited space on my own machine I have elected to use an external hard drive for files such as my Photos library that I use irregularly. This could also be "always on" if you deploy a NAS, though I have not tried a Photos library across a network
