I lost AirPods! Can I sign up for AppleCare and claim a loss?

Applecare + Loss and Theft for Airpods? When did Applecare + Loss and Theft for Airpods begin, please? I purchased mine Sept 2020 and do not recall that being an option, just the Applecare + which I'm now learning does not cover the loss of my airpods.
