Does the Apple Pencil now have a newer softer tip?

I am wondering if there has been an upgrade or change to the Apple Pencil?

i was recently at the Apple store playing with the new IPad and Pencil and noticed the tip on the pencil seemed softer and nicer to use than the one I have. If it has changed how do I get this newer tip?
