HP Officejet 4620 (Wireless Only Printer) repeatedly times out when attempting to connect to AirPort Extreme using PIN (AirPort Extreme has no WPS Button)

HP Officejet 4620 (Wireless Only Printer) repeatedly times out when attempting to connect to AirPort Extreme using PIN (AirPort Extreme has no WPS Button)

I have no idea what to do. I have reset printer, reinstalled printer drivers ... any suggestions?

My Mac and iPads connect to network without issue so not a network connectivity issue.

Bob,

Success!!!!

  1. Power off printer
  2. power off and then power on the AirPort Extreme
  3. Power on printer
  4. use your First Attempt method - Printer then connected to network!
  5. I had to remove printer from Mac and then add it back in again

Working Perfectly

Thank You so much for your excellent assistance.

(AirPort Extreme has no WPS Button)

But......it does have a First Attempt connection option for use with a Wi-Fi printer......which performs the same function as a WPS button. To confirm......

Open AirPort Utility on your Mac (Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility)

Click on the picture of the AirPort Extreme

Click Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Base Station menu......at the top of the screen where the other menus like File, Help, etc appear

Click Add WPS Printer

Choose the First Attempt connection method

Click Continue

When the printer appears, click Done

Note.....you may need to start over again with the setup of the printer.

Have you reset the printer so that it has been returned to its original factory default settings.....the same settings that were present when the printer was new?

I have 2 different HP printers here that have been set up using the Add WPS Printer / First Attempt method and things worked on the first try with both printers.

Some printers have trouble trying to join a wireless network if the network name is too long, has blank spaces, or special characters.

If the name of your WiFi network is something like Jeff54's Red Apple Wireless Network that may cause problems since the name is too long for some WiFi devices, there are blank spaces in the name, and a special character (an apostrophe) as well.

Try naming the WiFi network something simpler like Jeff54Wireless

Or, for example the name of my WiFi network is TWNDB
