unable to communicate with the printer

I have 2020 16” MacBook Pro (macOS 13.3.1 (22E261) suddenly is “Unable to communicate with the printer at this time”. The printer - Canon I-Sensys LBP223DW- is located on my local network. I

I can not print from my iPhone neither iPad . I can print using the USB cable only

I’ve tried:

1- re-initializing to factory setting.

2- Adding the printer- “Unable to communicate” so I couldn’t add it

3- resetting the router

I have even reinstalled the MacOs by pressing command R when rebooting.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi,

The Canon LBP223dw is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as a model supporting the AirPrint technology.

AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections. If necessary, you could check whether there is a change if the printer is connected by Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports of the router (instead of using Wi-Fi).

Since the problem appears to affect the Mac, the iPhone, and the iPad via the network, you may have to double-check all Wi-Fi router settings. Check that the computer and devices are properly connected to the router.

Also, you may want to try a full power-cycle sequence: Power off the router, the printer, the Mac, the iPhone and the iPad. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac, the iPhone, and the iPad.

If you have followed the troubleshooting steps in the Canon manual, and have tried resetting the printer and starting over with the printer setup and configuration, and have updated the printer firmware, then it would appear that the printer networking has failed.

Particularly given no ping responses.

You can discuss that with Canon support, as they may have printer Wi-Fi network diagnostics.

Or you can replace the printer, if USB-only access is insufficient.

Hello, I've done your recommended solution. it's still not working. I have even contacted the internet provider technical support who refreshed the router, and they have advised that the canon printer is connected to the internet with IP 192.168.1.2

I can't ping it, it is not responsive.

I even went further, I have erased my MBP. The printing fiasco is still alive.

its frustrating.

If you cannot ping the printer, then your local network setup is messed up, or your printer is not connected or not powered on or there’s a bad cable, your printer address is incorrect, or your printer networking hardware has failed.

There are new bits for this printer:

https://www.canon.com.au/laser-printers/imageclass-lbp223dw/support

and there is a firmware update from about a year ago posted there. You will want the newest firmware.

I’d verify the IP address set in the printer.

To do that…

The printer driver manual for this printer is just atrocious.

The following printer manual is less bad, but is still a mess:

https://oip.manual.canon/USRMA-4522-zz-SSS-220-enUV/

Here is how to check the IP address configuration from the printer front panel:

https://oip.manual.canon/USRMA-4522-zz-SSS-220-enUV/contents/devu-setup-nw-ip-ipv4.html#0116_h1_01

The printer does appear to support AirPrint, and I’d use that rather than vendor printer drivers.
