Just restored from Time Machine Backup, CLEAN install, and see exactly what QuantumJ shared here at Disk Utility shows two internal hard driv… - Apple Community.
Whats going on? Never had this issue on Mojave but now do on Catalina.
iMac Line (2012 and Later)
That is normal for Catalina.
One drive holds the OS and is read-only so the system cannot be modified.
The other drive holds your data and some other os files.
Finder makes it appear that they are a single volume.
Weird....soooo which one is Time Machine backing up? And is it not backup up crucial recovery data then???
It backs up both, assuming you haven't excluded system files.
Weird. How do I backup/restore to a new disk. I can only select one for that procedure.

The normal restore process for the entire computer is to pick a backup date. It shouldn’t show two disks, just a date of the backup.
I don’t think I’ve tried to restore Catalina, so I’m not sure.
