Apple ID email verification

Apple ID will not verify my email. I can log in (email address) and submit, enter my Apple ID password and sign in. I am asked to enter a code which has been quickly delivered by email, but this results in a message "cannot verify Email, this email address is not available. Choose a different address" Is there some way I can get into Apple ID to see if there is an address error in my profile?
