NXD as an external editor in Photos?

Hi folks. Up until Catalina I could use Nikon NX2 editing software for the 'Edit With..' option in Photos. Now NX2 doesn't work with Catalina I am trying too use Nikon NXD, their current software. When I click 'edit with' I get the message "The application “Capture NX-D” cannot open the specified document or URL."

With NX2 I could open the picture, do some local edits that Photos can't do and save it back into Photos. Any ideas why NXD can't do this?
