USB Keyboard not working after sleep

I use my MacBook pro with the lid closed and two monitors. I have an external Mac USB keyboard, too. Before the Catalina upgrade, I was able to wake the computer using the external keyboard. Now, after I put the MacBook into Sleep then reconnect to my monitors & keyboard the keyboard does not work. The monitors work fine and the mouse can be used to wake the Mac. But the keyboard does not work until I perform a restart.

Any thoughts?

I'm having this problem too. New 2020 MacBook Pro running 10.15.4 with a wireless keyboard/mouse plugged into an LG monitor plugged into the laptop. I've had my mouse and keyboard just stop working twice in the week since I got my new laptop.

I have used this setup for nearly 3 years with my previous MacBook Pro which I never upgraded past Mojave and never had an issue.

Plugging the usb transmitter directly into the laptop does not fix the problem. Turning the mouse off/on doesn't fix it. The batteries are fine (replaced them anyways and that didn't fix it).

Restarting the computer and unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in has solved it the two times but that kind of BS sounds like something I'd expect for Windows, not Mac.

Regardless of what they report, Apple USB keyboards are very close to the MAXIMUM USB power draw, and their cable is small to allow it to be flexible. If you use an "extensions cord" or have ANY device other than a low-power USB mouse plugged into the keyboard or on the same USB bus, it will slightly over-draw USB power and go flaky.

You can check which USB bus is which in this pane:

 menu > about this Mac > (system report) > Hardware > USB ...

then scroll through the list to see what devices are on the same USB BUS, sharing power.

I'm having the same issue with my Macbook Pro 13" 2017 (MacBookPro14,2). Catalina10.15.6

My keyboard is connected to the usb hub built into my monitor. Laptop remains closed next to it. My Logitech G Wireless mouse works fine and wakes up the device from sleep but the keyboard remains unresponsive until I unplug and reconnect it.

I can't believe this is still an issue since Oct last year. But it is relieving to hear that I'm not the only one. If there's so many of us there must be many more who haven't found this thread.
