I am unable to boot my MacBook Air into Safe Mode. When I turn it on and click shift after the chime, it doesn’t do anything. The Apple Logo with the loading bar goes halfway until the computer shuts down. I know it’s due to the fact that I have low storage that it won’t boot up. But I’m worried since I can’t even get into Safe Mode to delete some of my files. What should I do?

You would need to hold down the <shift> key, immediately after powering-up your MacBook Air, and then, continue holding it down until the Apple logo appears, then release it.
If you want to verify the progress of booting up in Safe Mode, hold down the following keys instead: <shift>+<cmd>+<V>

Yes, substituting a wired keyboard, would be a great next step ... and why I would recommend always having one handy when using wireless ones for just these kinds of situations. Actually, having a wired mouse, is also a good idea.
Thank you both for your responses but after following Tesserax’s advice, I am still unable to go into Safe Mode. I’ve tried multiple times but I still have no success. Is there any other way? Or am I just getting the timing wrong? Or should I use a wired external keyboard?
