Updated to Catalina 10.15.1 and can't login to Music or TV with Apple ID

Updated MacOS to Catalina 10.15.1 yesterday and spent all day today on this. Logged out of iCloud and back in. Changed Apple ID password. Reinstalled Catalina. When I try to Sign In in Music and TV the login screen disappears and it still says Sign In. No error messages or anything. Can sign into and out of App Store.

If the above doesn't work, are you running any anti - virus programs? Using a VPN?


Try setting up another admin user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor.  Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. After pasting the report in a PasteBin page, go to the top of the page, and copy the address in the URL bar. Etrecheck – System Information

It may not help, but try running/posting the Etrecheck report in your normal account. If the log won’t post, try posting it in Pastebin and provide a link in a reply. I can confirm that this is a bug. Heard from an Apple engineer that they’re working on a fix. In the meantime, for all you OCD cats that want to get things going again - follow these steps...


  1. Do a fresh install of Catalina. To do this....
  2. hit restart and when screen goes black hold command until you see MacOS recovery menu
  3. select disk utility and wipe hard drive by selecting on left menu and hitting erase at the top. Warning... all your data not stored in the cloud will be gone
  4. reinstall catalina
  5. when working through the Catalina setup, DO NOT LOGIN TO ICLOUD. Instead select ‘skip this step’
  6. when setup is done, the first thing you do is login to your account through music app. This can be done by opening music and selecting account at the top menu.
  7. this will log you into music, podcasts and music just fine.
  8. to continue using other iCloud services go to system preferences and login to iCloud...


of course, this only works for those who store everything in the cloud and don’t mind wiping their hard drives.


you can follow this or wait for the fix to be released, but who knows when that will,be available? Sorry for the typos, I’m typing quick while in a car with one hand.
