Unable to verify software update macOS 10.15.1

Not helpful to follow the link. It is too much! In addition to discovering that my files were relocated, the home screen on my computer has changed from the photo of 'Catalina Island' to a desert sand mountain... why did that happen too? How do I go back to the previous system?
