iPad safari rearranges tabs on its own

I’m using safari on iPadOS 13.2 on an iPad Air and I have quite a few tabs that I leave open all the time. I have them in a particular order but sometimes when I open safari, the tabs are in a different order. They aren’t being reordered but title or by site (those are the options when you long press a tab, but this isn’t that). I have 3 tabs of Amazon author pages that I keep an eye on and have safari move tabs from a completely unrelated site in between those from Amazon. Sometimes it is days between the times I find the tabs rearranged and sometimes it happens multiple times a day as happened just today.

I’m hoping somebody has some ideas as to how to stop this annoying activity from happening.

thanks in advance for any help.

Same thing happens with mi iPhone 8. I have IOS 13.3.1. I’ve noticed it happening more with the recent tabs I open. I have tabs that are about a year or older and those have not changed order, but tabs I’ve been opening or working on in the last few days do change. I constantly need to do a ton of research on different topics and loosing track of tabs (aka sources I can’t remember later) is frustrating. This needs to be fixed now!

This isn’t a workaround because it isn’t force-quitting Safari that causes the tabs to rearrange themselves. In fact, it happened to me just a few minutes ago. I picked up my iPad, opened Safari and a few of my tabs were out of order. I put them back where they should be. After about 5 minutes, I switched over to the mail app for a few minutes to check on a few things and reply to an email. When I switched back to Safari, the same tabs that had been rearranged earlier were once again out of place. No force quitting of any apps was involved.

This has been happening on a daily basis with every update of iPadOS since developer beta 0. With the number of postings concerning this issue I cannot believe Apple is not even discussing it, let alone addressing it.

If only there were other browser options (don’t even suggest Firefox — that’s something from back in the 8 bit graphic days of computing when used in the iPadOS environment, in my opinion).

Wake Up Apple — The toast is burning.

Same thing has been happening to me. And I don’t even have as many tabs as most other people who have experienced this - many of them say they have over 100 tabs, but I have about 25 and it’s always the bottom half that keep getting shuffled. I’ll have 8 tabs open for the website that I read books from, and it’ll shove other tabs between each of those 8. And this is on an iPhone 7

Yeah I can’t believe it’s nearly a year and they still haven’t fixed this. It’s infuriating on my year old iPad, and not helped by how janky the tab-sorting functionality has gotten, random refusal to scroll while dragging a tab, constantly trying to open in a new window and don’t you dare make the mistake of closing your main window before that unwanted child one or you will LOSE all those tabs forever.

fix it please, Apple.
