I'm having to write this with an old wired keyboard since I haven't been able to use my mac one. It will no longer print i's or o's and a few other keys. I looked in preferences and it keeps going back to Japanese language as my selection. What!!!!????? I don't think so !!!! Please help. Apple care doesn't seem to know how to fix this . Very frustrating because I miss my wireless apple keyboard.

Yes, a bug from something. My iMac is a 2010 yr. with Sierra. I recently put in an antivirus , I should have yrs ago. It turned up lots of malware. Esp. From phony adobe updates. So lots of settings were screwy, one of them being the mouse accessibility. The amazing thing is, I've been back and forth with Apple technicians all week and no one knew the right fix.
Seems all set now though so thank you for your help.

if it is 789uiojkl that don't work, it is because you have Mouse Keys turned on in Accessibility preferences.

It's not clear exactly what you are referring to. What is on your list in System Preferences/Keyboard/Input Sources?
It mentions same here It says ....
"Click on Accessibility, then choose Mouse & Trackpad from the list on the left side. Then deselect the Enable Mouse Keys checkbox"
I have NEVER used Accessibility in more than 10 years of using an iMac!

I understand that the only product of this type considered 'acceptable' by Apple Support is Malwarebytes.
I've experimented over the years and have tried them all! 🙄
OMG......I can't thank you enough!!!! That was it! The mouse keys were turned on in Accessibility pref. Lord knows how THAT occurred! Thank you :) .

That's kind of sad, since the Mouse-Keys-sometimes-on-by-default problem began with Mojave and has been addressed in these forums quite a few times over the last year.
