AOC external monitor e1659fwu not working even after installing driver, allowing security prefs

I have an AOC external monitor, model E169FWU, which worked on my previous MacBook Pro, which is the same model as the new one I have now.

I followed the instructions on this thread which had worked in the past but they no longer work. When I installed the driver, it warned me that it wouldn't be compatible with future versions of Mac OS, but I can't get it working right now even after going into System Preferences to allow the downloaded driver app.

Any suggestions appreciated!
