More dropped calls since 4.0.1 update?

I was just trying to talk to my girlfriend on my drive home and the call dropped 4 times. I finally pulled off and tried talking to her with my phone laying still and on speakerphone and with 5 bars and 3G showing, it dropped the call 3 more times. Never had this happen until the 4.0.1 update.

Am I alone or have others noticed this?

I too can't keep a call connected.

I have tried both EDGE, 3G, and even have a MicroCell at home and the phone just won't stay connected. I drop calls every 3-5 minutes after the 4.0.1 update.

All I could think when Steve talked about the low number of calls on these issues is that iPhone users - or any smartphone users - are a little more savvy than regular phone users. They see what's out there in the news and don't call on issues they already have answers to.

So, I called Apple today, and they told me to go get a new SIM card at an AT&T store. Sounds goofy, but I'll try it out. Hopefully, it works! I'll post back if it works out...

I am having the same issue with the new update as well. I had all my bars in certain areas before the update and very very few dropped calls. After the update, it seems to be a lot worse... dropped calls...5 bars down to No Service..1-2... and my phone seems to stay stuck in "No Service" mode even after I leave work. I have a signal outside before I go to work in the morning then when I leave the building it is like the phone won't recognize a signal. I have to power it off and then back on. I was instructed to do a factory reset so hopefully it corrects to issue... Guess I will find out tomorrow.

Bars are meaningless unless you have dropped calls or garbled reception. Stop obsessing about bars, there are so many real things in life to concern yourself about.

Except the OP DID mention many dropped calls. I think he was far more concerned about that than the new depiction of bars.

Yup. iPhone 4 is a call dropping machine. Mostly problems when using a headset. But this thing irradiates so much I can feel it when it's near my head. I need a headset. I tried lots of headsets. I am think this thing has to go back to the Apple Store. Take Steve up on that refund offer. Shame, since so many things on this are cooler than 3gs. It is a phone after all. Or, maybe I follow Woz's advice and get a second phone on Verizon.

I would love to know if it's a software issue. I might hold out if that was the case.

"Except that" I wasn't responding to the OP in that post. You do know how to follow threads in this forum, right?

I also know how to follow 'sarcasm' which seems rampant from the Kool-Aid crowd. Nothing can be discussed on this forum without some Kool-Aid head attacking someone making a point. Simply unreal.

John, if you want to stay with AT&T, I've been testing a Samsung Captivate and so far it's been great. Better reception, battery life, swipe technology (which is by far the fastest way I've ever used for typing), gorgeous screen and other really nice things.

The one issue thus far is with a pretty poor GPS sensitivity. The phone has a hard time locating your position. Hopefully it will be fixed in an upcoming update since many are complaining about it, but overall, so far so good. I can see now what some people have learned, the I4 is not the only really nice smartphone. 🙂

Looks like you've been drinking the Samsung Kool-Aid... Maybe they supply it to you for free. If you don't like snarky replies, stop posting your own and stop trolling here.

You have yet to post anything since you joined that can even be remotely considered tech support or help to iPhone users. It's 100% Apple flames, attacks on other members who don't support you and promoting your sponsor's product.

Yes, you're right - vidguy has posted 468 Apple bashing posts since joining the board the day the !P4 was released..... and for the last week or so, he has been posting Samsung commercials all over the place....

Hmmm... can anyone guess what this guy's agenda is?

No, you see "Modular", I CAN find issues unlike you with a device I own. I CAN find both the good AND the bad with something I own. You are TOTALLY incapable of admitting any flaw with ANYTHING Apple. You have some serious issues.

Sponsor's product? Get a life, you are CLUELESS.

Obviously, you haven't read many of my posts. I discussed many "issues" with iPhones, when relevant to HELPING others with a problem, or to make a CONSTRUCTIVE suggestion. For example, I am probably the first person this forum to bring up the possibility of problems with the iP4 antenna and the need to use a Bumper with it, a week before the phone was released:

http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11695235#11695235

You, on the other hand, post nothing but unrelenting bashing of the iPhone, Apple and Steve Jobs. Nothing constructive, NOTHING helpful to anyone, and nothing but complaints about issues. It's interesting that after 473 posts, you're yet to be awarded a single "help" point from another user.
Sponsor's product? Get a life, you are CLUELESS.

Even though your attitude is indistinguishable from a paid shill of a competitor, I could be wrong and it is possible that you have internal issues that compel you to do this... That's a question only you can answer.

Why would I seek out ANY of your posts when all I've read are either demeaning or insulting.

It's funny, "Zebra" also claimed he was the 'first' to point this out. Are you Zebra? You do seem to have a lot in common.

Have I posted nothing but issues? Yes, that's what I've had. I HAVE complimented aspects of the phone that were deserving, so apparently YOU haven't read all my posts. I said the camera was excellent barring the indoor white balance issues, the screen is very nice and the overall feature set is great. But as soon as anyone posts negatives, BAM, you get blasted. Even your last post here references 'sounding like a paid shill' OR I have some kind of 'internal issues'. This proves that none of the Kool-Aid drinkers are capable of actual intelligent discussions. If you don't revel in the glory of every aspect of the Iphone, you are attacked. Talk about isses, WOW!

As to not having any 'gold stars', how could I when I have posted my issues? The fact is I see very little help for people with issues from ANY of you guys.

Have a great day.
