I rented the hobbit part 1 on Apple TV last night. Now for part two and it only gives me the to purchase option. What is up with that. All other hobbit and lotr movies are available for rent or purchase. Am using Apple TV app on Samsung smart tv.
Try Searching for “The Hobbit”, find the trilogy collection (theatrical), see which movies it consists of, then select part 2 in that collection, and rent just part 2. The error is in Search, I believe, not the availability of the title.
It is the Extended Editions that are for purchase only.

Consider the possibility of unintentional error, and contact the the iTunes Store staff. Perhaps they can accommodate you.
Didn’t work. Both normal and extended versions are for purchase only. All others have rent/purchase option. I repeated the process on the Apple TV app in my iPhone, on my Apple TV generation 3 and using the movies app on the Apple TV gen 3. am in NZ. I fail to see why I must purchase one movie from the trilogy!
It would be nice if some one apple would explain this! This not the first sequel I have had only purchase as an option.
Thanks mate. I am now in the nightmare of dealing with Apple help. At least it is via phone. Problem is I am dealing with a helpline that is using kiwi as a first or second language and am in the loop of “we are escalating your problem!”.
