Display not fitting on HP Pavillion 23tm

Hello,

I am using an HP Pavilion 23tm monitor with my MacBook Pro, and the display does not fit the screen.

The menu bar can not be seen, and the dock below is only half visible.

I've tried adjusting the settings but only have three options, with none of them making the situation better.

Have tried plugging the monitor directly into the HDMI port on my MacBook and also using the Thunderbolt adapter, and the problem is the same.

I understand it is an old monitor, but it works fine when it is runnings on my Windows PC, and I don't want to throw it away.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

UPDATE: FIXED ✅

After all this time, I managed to fix the problem and it's nothing to do with the Mac. Thought I would post solution to hopefully help someone else.

On the monitor

Press the Menu button (and the HP Main Menu will appear)
Scroll down to Image Control and press OK
Select Custom Scaling and press OK
Select Overscan and press OK (I found that Fill to Screen and Fill to Aspect Ratio unavailable)
Make sure Overscan is OFF and press OK.
Save and Return and OK
Exit and OK
