Unable to update IOS

I am attempting to update IOS on an iPad. It is currently running version 9. Due to the length of time since it’s been updated, I need to use iTunes (Windows) to update. Each time I try to update, I get the error that the backup is corrupt and to delete the backup. However, there is no backup listed in device preferences and there is likewise nothing to delete when I try to do it manually in the mobilesync folder. I have also tried deleting and reinstalling iTunes. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Chances are if your iPad has not received ANY iOS upgrades/updates in years and is stuck on iOS 9.3.5/9.3.6, you own an older 6, 7 or 8 year old iPad that cannot be upgraded beyond that iOS version.

The internal hardware is simply too old, underpowered and incompatible with ANY current or future iOS versions.

Sorry, but it is the way it is.

Time for a new or refurbished iPad from Apple.
