Mac Mail in Catalina 10.15 not searching

...Seems that now when I put a name or email address in the Mac mail search bar, it SAYS there are 100 (or whatever) matches, yet it will not filter them in the viewer window - so there is really no way to search.

Am I simply doing something wrong or is this just buggy?

Had same problem, unfortunately nothing above mentioned helped.

But I found the solution. I deleted all the mail accounts (not just deactived!), restarted the computer and then added again all the accounts one by one. Mail app downloads again all the mails and search works again.

Hi rnormfoto,

Thanks for confirming. If searching mail isn’t working like it should, use these steps to rebuild the mailboxes on your Mac: Rebuild mailboxes in Mail on Mac

If the behavior continues, see if this occurs in safe boot or a new user account to isolate and possibly resolve this issue:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Let me know what you find.

Cheers.

Hey there rnormfoto,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re having issues searching in Mac Mail. I’ll be happy to help with this.

When you do the search, are you searching in a specific mailbox? If not, this might be why this is happening. Take a look a this article for info how to change the search results in Mail on Mac:

Search for emails in Mail on Mac

Let me know if that helps.
