Facetime issues

Hello,

Whenever i'm making Facetime calls via HomePod it goes fine for nearly exactly 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes the voice/transmission stutters and some parts of the conversation get simply lost.

Has anyone an idea what could be the cause? I'm facing this issue since last summer, before everything was fine.

Btw: Playing music and anything else just works fine.

Thanks for help

Hello, SevenOfNine85.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

From what I've read and understand is that you're having issues with making calls via HomePod. Does regular calls work as expected when using your HomePod? Make and answer phone calls on HomePod

Be sure that your iPhone and HomePod are up to date:

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update HomePod

Restart all devices involved including your router and make sure they are both on the same Wi-Fi network, this includes if you're using 2.4GHz or 5GHz. Those need to match as well.

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers!

No news to the problem in the meantime.

Normal phone calls work, it's just facetime which has problems.

I'm using 5 Ghz Wifi and the signal quality is very fine.

It seems to work when both ends use the latest ios version. When calling a ios 12 device the problem always occurs after about 10 minutes.

I've tested if with my wife, she has an iPhone 7 with latest ios version, it went fine. But when calling my parents who have ios 12 the problem comes up.

Btw: I've also tested it with my second HomePod and it was the same result.

Thanks

We call our daughter in London every few weeks via FaceTime Audio using our HomePod. The HomePod routes the call via my iPhone. It works really well, or at least it used to.

In the last few months, after 12 minutes or so, the call quality deteriorates and becomes intermittent until the call eventually fails.

I suspect that it is something to do with IOS 13 on my iPhone, as I believe it did not occur till I updated my iPhone to IOS 13, and before the HomePod was updated from 12.4.1

I do not believe the cause is related to our WiFi or broadband connection, as calling from my iPad Pro works perfectly. I do not believe the problem is with my daughter’s end of the call for the same reason.

We did have one successful call via the HomePod on 17 November after all the updates, but the problem returned on 1 December. It made me wonder whether Apple may have first fixed the problem in IOS 13.2.2 released on 8 November, then unfixed the problem with 13.2.3 which was released on 19 November.

The iPhone (iPhone 8) and HomePod are otherwise working really well.

I updated the iPhone and HomePod to 13.3 last week, restarted the modem, the AirPort Extreme router, the HomePod and the iPhone. I checked that the HomePod and iPhone are on the same network, and same band (5GHz) However, the problem still persists. Last night’s call broke up for a few moments at 12 minutes, but kept going. It then became so bad at about 24 minutes that we terminated the call via the HomePod and went to plan B, the iPad Pro.

Note that the AirPort Extreme 802.11n (4th Generation) is running firmware version 7.8.1

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try next?
