iphone 11 pro poor sound quality

Hi all, I’m having sound problems in GSM calls since the very beginning. The sound on my side is always good, the people on the other side complain a lot regarding sound quality. The symptom doesn’t happen in voip calls, only radio one. Apple support already replaced my initial phone, already changed the SIM card also and the symptom reoccur in the new phone. Anyone knows how to follow from here? Anyone has a similar experience?

They said that the problem was associated with the mobile's inability to alternate between 2G and 3G/4G for the phone calls. When it uses 2G, everything goes ok, but when it tries to use voice over 3G/4G network, the problem seems to appear. They said to investigate the problem with Apple, as all the network tests MEO performed on my area of residence rendered excellent results. Seems like a ping-pong game and that I am the ball 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately, Apple Care only tries the standard procedures (reset and not restore recommendations and etc) and don't do more than send you to the official repair centers. In there, they replace your phone and the problem continues to occur on the new device. This looks like a failed certification problem between Apple and some operators like Meo in Portugal.

Apple Support has forward my case to engineering. They collected and analyzed the logs from my iPhone 11 Pro and didn't find any problem with the phone itself. Thats when they told me to contact the operator to try to solve the problem. What I think is the same as d1000pt said in the previous post: "This looks like a failed certification problem between Apple and some operators like Meo in Portugal.". Thus, they need to cooperate and find a joint solution!

Cześć Harnaś,

I have reported to PL Apple Support, they told me that they have several reports on the issue, but it does not affect all owners and reason is unknown at this moment. They asked me to try resetting network settings, clean iOS install and some other stuff, but the agent wasn’t really convinced it will help. In case all workarounds do not bring any improvements, they asked me to raise a ticket at T-Mobile PL and share its number with them. They say they will investigate together, since they have strategic partnership in Poland. I have raised it yesterday to our key account at T-Mobile and currently awaiting ticket number on their side...

Cheers,

Piotr

Status of my case:

After second delivery in a officer repair center in Lisbon/Portugal the device went to Apple Factory and returned with the indication they didn’t found any problem. Returned with the device and the problem persisted. Returned to Apple Care Support and we started another process of diagnostic. Tried a bunch of tests and recorded logs during calls with problems. Data already uploaded to Apple. One of the tests we are doing is using a Vodafone SIM card now (my operator is Meo). Until now no further problems occurred (aprox. 30 calls). Apple Care continue to follow my case with a dedicated person on their side, looks like it will escalated to higher support tier.

I have the same issue using PL Orange and O2 Germany. So in my opinion this is Apple problem.

Apple replaced me the phone but after few days I have the same issue. Only Airplain mode Off/On solves the problem for a while.

For people using Polish language link to PL forum with the same complains:

Reporting in from the Netherlands with provider Tele2 and the same issue. Some people report bad audio quality on their end. While I can hear them clearly. Putting the phone into Plane-mode and then off, resolves it temporarily. With my iPhone SE2 I had no issues on iOS 13 whatsoever.

This is pretty frustrating for an otherwise perfectly working and awesome phone.

I hope this report will help to encourage Apple to look into the matter and hopefully come with an iOS update. Whilst not having to replace or fix the phone.

Yeah, I have it in Poland with T-Mobile...

The service has replaced me with a new phone twice and we still have the same problem. now I am waiting for news when they find a solution. If the interlocutor hears me bad, they go into airplane mode, I wait 5 s and call him back. It happens 2-3 a day. When the phone was on the site, I bought an iPhone 6 s for 2 weeks, no problems.

I know several cases in Portugal with Meo Operator. Vodafone appears not having the issue in Portugal. It sounds

like an iPhone 11 Pro certification problem. Apple already replaced my phone, done

several tests and say it's an operator problem and they should be the ones to

fix it. I have seen cases in several countries, operators and in high-end devices

only. Apple Care didn't help and close the incident support saying the cannot

do anything else. Amazing experience with a 1350€ device. Ghostbusting since

September on this issue. Drained out by now. Worst experience ever with a

phone.

I'm on Bell Mobility in Ontario and can report the same issue with Iphone 11 pro.. horrible sound quality with the phone's radio. Actually the worst sounding calls I've heard on a mobile phone in a long time. Tried earpiece, speakerphone, I've swapped out to a new SIM, tried disabling/enabling VoLTE, even tried wifi calling over my LAN, makes no difference. I've used Skype & Whatsapp to make calls instead of the phone app and it's a lot better but there is still a slightly artificial, robotic, sound to the calls on both ends.

I'm pretty disappointed because otherwise, it's a nice phone: very fast gui, great battery life, audio quality when listening to music is excellent on the phone's speakers, with wired headphones, or bluetooth, which you'd think would make phone calls sound good also but no. I've given up. Using the same SIM in an old Samsung S7 or a new Pixel 4 XL, phone call sound quality is much, much better. No comparison. This is my first iphone. I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It's pretty good for anything except making or getting phone calls. :-) For my situation, it's unusable.
