Stutter issue (please pay attention to this issue)

Well, i have some sad news, but some happy news too!

Just went to the Apple Store, and showed this and other forums related to the Stutter problem on iPhone Xs Max, and the true is that THEY DONT CARE about it, and THEY DONT CHECK THIS THING, people here complain about lots of problem, waiting on a solution from Apple, and the truth is APPLE WILL NEVER FIX ANYTHING in iOS based in this forum

I've recorded some screens of the stutter happening, showed in the Apple Repair Center, they did LOTS of tests, did these tests about 5 times, its really annoying, but i did, and the system didnt noticed ANYTHING wrong, but the problem was there...

They've called some kind os "Specialist" in Apple products, which told me it was my 4G "data" was slow and thats was the cause of my problem. LOL

Then, they called another guy, which was very smart and a bit "nerd", we've tested some apps and he saw that my phone was with this problem, then, fastly he got a new one, and gave me to try....the new one is working perfectly, there's no stutter anymore!

I Would like to encourage you guys, go and solve your problem, this thing here wont help, Apple doesnt fix anything based in these infos here

this issue happens when the dark mode is on . Turn off the dark mode and things are smooth. Settings > Display & Brightness > Select Light .

I’ve found the workaround how to avoid stutter somehow on my 11 pro max. If I use heavy app I just unload it using task manager. This workaround helps. Apple says that 4 gb ram enough but my experience shows that it is not true.

I think not it's not OLED display that caused this issue. I think it has something to do with Apple's 120 Hz touch-sensing technology aka touch sample rate. This technology is available for iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11, 11 Pro Max Pro. Basically what this technology does is providing better touch-responsiveness by reducing the latency in between the moment when you lay your finger on the screen and the screen react to your touch. Not to be confused with 120 Hz display refresh rate, the mentioned iPhone models are still same like the rest of the previous iPhone models with 60 Hz refresh rate displays. Currently only Razer Phone, Razer Phone 2, ROG Phone 2 and ROG Phone 3 have displays with 120 Hz refresh rate. Before that I also suspected maybe the "Tap to Wake" is causing the stutter which is a feature available for iPhone X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11, 11 Pro Max Pro as well and I tried turning that feature off to test it but the issue still persists.

I also want to make it clear that the "stutter" I'm referring here is some kind of "hiccup when doing swiping up and down, the ongoing scrolling faced some kind of "loss of touch" hiccup and then the scrolling suddenly moves up/down fast a little bit further away from where my finger stops". This is definitely not your ordinary iPhone "overheat lag" when playing graphics intensive games in a room with no air-conditioning and then the whole iPhone becomes choppy/laggy in all kinds of apps as long as your temperature didn't cool down the choppiness continues. In computer terms laggy and choopy are the same meaning but stutter is different, it's more like a hiccup. For example scrolling Facebook normally is fine but suddenly there's a hiccup makes your scrolling go overboard. The reason I explain this is because I don't want people to be confused with it in case someone doesn't know how to differentiate it.

It is not a hardware issue, it is software, wait for the next BIG update or try it yourself in public beta and you will see... just wait or try it

One doesn’t/shouldn’t need to have the most expensive phone to have a normal UI/UX experience. The stutter issue is not normal, it’s a software optimization that has not been addressed, I suspect likely on purpose.

If the 2 types of displays perform without a dramatic difference (such as the obvious stuttering happening), people will not consider the 120hz refresh rate valuable. I don’t think think that’s the right way to sell something but it’s out of our hands.

In my opinion, the choppiness has been deliberately made more prominent over some time. It wasn’t this bad/obvious before (and there was no reason for it to be as there was no looming new display technology for it to be compared with).

Hi bro I realized this shutter issue too the first day I bought myself a iPhone 11 Pro Max. Just so you know my iPhone 8 Plus has no such shutter issue since the beginning of iOS 11 and been through multiple iOS updates until iOS 13.6. One thing worth mentioning is I recalled that when I first updated to iOS 13, it had suffered from bugs that made our Home Screen showing signs of jerkiness when swiping left and right that's why Apple released so many iOS 13 updates within a few months to address multiple issues and I'm glad that the Home Screen jerkiness issue was fixed.

Wow it must have been really tough for you to endure since you were started to use your iPhone XS Max in 2018. I tried everything I could do like Reset All Settings and Erase All Content and Settings. Since I'm an IT guy so I know it's useless for reset and erase because the problem already existed as a new phone. And then I also did DFU restore but also to no avail. After doing some research on the internet I was suspecting that probably it's another Display Module faulty issue (https://support.apple.com/en-my/iphone-x-display-module-replacement-program) but later I came to think of it since my iPhone 11 Pro Max is a new phone out of the box but still have this issue then maybe it's not Display Module issue after all. I highly suspect it's iOS software or touchscreen controller driver issue. I guess Apple is using Synaptics touchscreen controller chip for iPhone XS series and iPhone 11 series.

I went back to my iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 13.6 and did a detailed investigation and I notice that it's also suffers from the same scrolling stutter issue on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. So it's definitely iOS software issue.

I think it’s works for both cases. You just need to restart your phone.

I have the same issue. I’ve bought an iPhone XS Max 2 month ago and I’m experiencing stuttering scrolling and stuttering when I’m swiping between home screens even on iOS 13.4.5. Of course I asked Apple Support about it, but they can’t help me with this problem except to recommend me to visit repair center. Of course I’ve made a DFU mode, but it isn’t solved my problem.

I’ve noticed that if I reboot my phone, it’s solve my problem for a moment or while I update my apps from App Store. Maybe it’s connected with processor activity? Idk

is it hardware or software problem.

Also I’ve sent a logs to Apple about this issue, but still hasn’t received any feedback.

i have kinda a bad feeling that if it doesn’t seem like a widespread problem, it may connected with hardware and Apple will not fix it even on iOS 14...

Do you think that’s it’s a widespread issue for iPhone XS Max? Have you tasted phones on Apple Store or of your friends? So it’s seems like we’re just should waiting for the updates and we can’t do nothing except to bring the phone to repair center...
