Export issues

I'm new to iMovie. This morning I successfully exported from iMovie at 720p. It exported fine with proper format. Subsequent exporting only exports in 16:9 format which also crops off top and bottom - I have not changed anything (that I know of). No matter what I do I cannot get the 4:3 format back again. Please help.

Click on the Crop tool and select Fit. Your 4:3 aspect ratio will be restored, with black bars on each side to make it fit iMovie’s 16:9 screen.

Take a look at this help item that explains the process:

Thanks, That seems to have fixed the problem. Although I not sure how the 16:9 got applied. Oh well.

Can I ask another export question? Maybe I should start a new issue?

There are some black frames in the middle of the clip. I split the clip and I trimmed out the black frames. It plays properly in the time line but when I export, the black frames are still there.
