Music library file cannot be saved after upgrade to Catalina

Hi all,

After the upgrade to Catalina I get the following error after opening Music: "The music library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-39)". (Translated from Dutch, so the English text may be a bit different.) Changing the location of the folder 'Music Media' doesn't help; I haven't found a location where I don't get this error, either local or remote (NAS). User permissions are ok and there is plenty of GB free space. I have installed the latest version of Catalina (10.15.1) Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Thank you for the suggestion, jeremy_v. I tried these steps, but they didn't help. Suspect the problem is that my music library lives on a network drive (via an AirPort Extreme). Don't have time to troubleshoot further; just replacing Apple Music with 3rd-party app. It's been a fun 20 years, iTunes. RIP.

Sorry for my late reply, but thank you for your reaction. Unfortunately the solution suggested by jeremy_v didn't work. I will perform a clean install of MacOS; I haven't done that since I bought my MacBook in 2013.

Based on the error message you're seeing this can be a permissions related issue. I recommend to quit the Music app on your Mac by following the steps here: Quit apps on Mac and to repair the permissions in this helpful article: Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder
