Music library file cannot be saved after upgrade to Catalina

Hi all,

After the upgrade to Catalina I get the following error after opening Music: "The music library file cannot be saved. An unknown error has occurred (-39)". (Translated from Dutch, so the English text may be a bit different.) Changing the location of the folder 'Music Media' doesn't help; I haven't found a location where I don't get this error, either local or remote (NAS). User permissions are ok and there is plenty of GB free space. I have installed the latest version of Catalina (10.15.1) Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

Hi sander128,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand you're unable to save a music library file due to an error message that is appearing. I can help point you in the right direction.

Based on the error message you're seeing this can be a permissions related issue. I recommend to quit the Music app on your Mac by following the steps here: Quit apps on Mac and to repair the permissions in this helpful article: Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder

If you continue to experience the same behavior after following these steps, I recommend contacting Apple Support to review this behavior further. You can contact them through this link here: Contact Apple Support

Kind regards.
