iTunes Match Keeeps Deleting my Music Library

I subscribed to iTunes Match via an older iPad.

That iPad had just 34 pieces of music on it that I had purchased from Apple.

When I then went to a newer iPad, and activated iTunes Match, it wiped out all the music on that iPad (2,800 songs) and replaced them with the 34 songs from the older iPad that I no longer have.

I was assuming (wrongly it seems) that iTines match would sync the 34 songs from the old iPad with the 2800 songs on the new iPad.

I have the 2800 songs backed so I loaded them again and the same thing happened again.

So, obviously the iTunes Match Library only has 34 songs and there doesn't seem to be able to add my 2800 songs to it.

Is there any way I can delete the iTunes Match library and start again using the 2800 songs on the new iPad?

You need to sign in your Apple ID and enable iCloud Music Library (Sync Library) in iTunes on a computer. Any music in that library should be merged with what you already have in the cloud. See Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music - Apple Support. When you use iCloud Music Library in both iTunes and your device any music you add to the library should become available to the device without needing to be synced directly.
