The rubber around MacBook Pro screen melting...

The service centre wanted to give me a quote to replace the whole screen. I read somewhere this cost a bomb. Replace with possibly the same defective rubber inside?

do we need a class action lawsuit? Lol That would be time consuming. Just avoid macbook in the future for me.

does iPad experience such issues? Maybe get an iPad instead of a macbook in the future

I have same issue with my MacBook Pro retina 15”. Really hoping to discover a straightforward solution. If anyone finds a workaround (not involving replacing the screen) I’d be very interested to hear it! I am not impressed by this Apple😏. Whilst mine is not terrible, but it is certainly worsening and now my eyes immediately focus on the areas affected by it, because I now know it’s there.

Good for u! Here in Singapore, the authorised dealer did not offer me free replacement. My warranty expired in Nov 2019. Disappointed. Did they make the current Macbook Pro to be biodegradable after a year? My iMac 2013 is still alive. My old Macbook Pro 2013 lasted until last year when the RAM died. The rubber remained good!

I have the same problem as the rest of you. This is really annoying as i really look after my products and my MacBook 12" still looks like the day i took it out of the box, it looks brand new. So to have the lid sticking down all the time is very annoying, it sometimes leaves black marks as well.

I think Apple should help customers out with getting these fixed, we pay a lot of money for these laptops and don't expect the rubber seals to start melting after a few years. Apple should either pay 80% of the cost to have it replace or maybe even do it for free. After all it is a manufacturing fault.

Thanks for starting this thread. I just got off the phone and chat about the same problem. My Air is 9 months old and the seal is also disintegrating. USELESS is about all I can say regarding AppleCare. It's my fault for 'cleaning' screen with glass cleaner - right. even though the screen is fine, it's the rubber that's falling apart, right? No use with chat either. Am told now that whole screen has to be be replaced even though screen is PERFECTLY fine. Let this be an expensive lesson on why not to buy Apple products in the future.

My Macbook 13 inch still has not yet developed the well-known butterfly keyboard issue. Soon, i guess.

People have to make a legal case out of the “butterflies” to start a replacement program.

I really like the operating system. I dread migrating back to Windows.

I live in Malaysia and the consumer tribunal mediates in disputes like this one. No lawyer may be present at the hearing. This is a fairly common feature in Commonwealth countries. For UK consumers, they can contact the director-general of fair trade.

Hello papa_teo, appreciate you could share with me which Apple store offered to replace whole screen for you.. I’m considering to take my MacBook Air with bezel Melt problem to that store for checking (MacBook Air bought within a year) Here in Penang, I got turned down by service dealer claiming it’s not under warranty. However, Apple limited warranty stated materials defects is covered under its limited warranty coverage. This bezel rubber melt issue obviously is a Material defect under normal usage.

I try to raise up the issue but they send a software engineer to attend me via call.

He claimed that he is an software engineer and this is hardware issue. What’s he suggest me is changing the whole screen and paid the full amount.

You have every right to have it fixed. It's definitely not cosmetic because its function is to stop dust getting in when the lid is closed. If it is breaking apart, it can't do it's job, so it's not functioning. Good for you!

Same issue, here. The rubber around the screen has started to peel off my Macbook pro-2014 15 inch model. Plus, when I had a problem with the battery, I was advised that my Mac was quite old and they couldn't replace it, although I was willing to pay. They gave me a quote and mentioned that 'Apple certified' technicains would be able to do it for free. I fail to understand if technicians can do it why can't Apple itself do it.

Apple is aware that customers pay through their feet to buy Apple products and to decline service, and also not acknowledging that such an issue exists, is completely preposterous and atrocious on Apple's part.

Same here, My mac book pro 2017 have the same problem. moreover, I rarely use it (mint condition), so I guess the product has limited durability, and the factory should responsible for the issue.
