Watch 5 dimmer

I finally bought an Apple watch because it can always be on (in sessions with my clients I need to keep a subtle eye the time). However. If my shirtsleeve is slightly over the light sensor its off! And most of the time too dim! It does this to save battery obviously, but i get 40 hours charge - would rather disable the light sensor and reduce battery. I cannot find this essential option and seems there isn’t one? Really? Are Apple
