Salvage old IDE drive

I salved the hard drive from my ancient and dead Performa 630 (aka LC 630). This is an IDE drive and i purchased an IDE-USB adapter.

The drive connects so that i can see it in Disk Utility, but cannot mount; i can only assume this is a filesystem problem. The filesystem is reported as 'Mac OS Standard' by Disk Utility.

Is there any way i can mount this old IDE drive?

Would it be correct to assume that you wish to just read old files from the Mac OS Standard IDE drive (that is, you do not want to reformat the hard disk)?

Are you using one of the latest system software versions? If so, any chance of testing the USB-to-IDE adapter with a Mac running an OS earlier than 10.12 instead?

Otherwise, if possible, you may want to try connecting the USB-to-IDE adapter to a PC. In this case, a Mac-disk utility for Windows (such as an appropriate version of MacDrive, MacDisk or TransMac, capable of reading plain HFS = Mac OS Standard) will be needed. Alternatively, Linux distributions can typically handle HFS (with or without the need for extra packages).
