Battery Indicator stuck at 100% All day

My battery indicator stays at 100% and then will die without warning. Has anyone had this issue? It started doing this within 2 weeks of receiving the watch, the update (6.1) did fix it temporarily and then a couple of days ago, it started again.

Apple Watch Series 5, watchOS 6

I had the same issue and had tried all of the usual suggested solutions. I then found a tip that I had not seen before and it worked for me (for a week now at least). I'll share it in hopes that it works for others as well.

  1. Turn the power off on the iPhone and leave off for at least 20 minutes.
  2. Turn the power off on the Watch and leave off for at least 20 minutes. I left both off for 30 minutes.
  3. Turn the iPhone on.
  4. Turn the Watch on.

Lo and behold, it worked! The battery went to 65% and ticked down in normal increments without shutting off. I have fully recharged every day since and it the battery continues to work normally. I can't explain why that worked, but I hope it works for others having the same problem.

Hi Tom, Sorry if I wasn't very clear. What I meant was: 1)_ Unpair your watch. 2) turn it off and turn off your iphone. 3) Turn everything back on again. At this point, you could set it up as a new watch, which didn't work for me. Or you could choose a previous "watch" that your phone will have a picture of. That's what I did last time. It might nudge the software a little to get through this glitch. Another thing I read about is to pair it to somebody else's phone and then unpair it and repair it back to your own. Are you out of the U.S.?

I started having the issue a few days ago (6.1.1 update?) where the battery was at 100% most of the day and then I got the red lightning bolt and the watch died. I tried the repairing, setting add new, a bunch of hard resets; nothing worked. I then simply turned the watch off for an hour and turned it back on and the battery percentage seems to working correctly now. Hopefully this is a permanent fix.

I have the same problem with Apple Watch series 5. I have seen most of the issues described in this thread. Updated watchOS and tried every solution suggested.I tried contacting support with this issue and they sent me a replacement. It happened with the second device too. Now they sent me a third device. It has the same issue as well. Extremely disappointed with the quality of the product. How can they not fix it?

I really appreciate all these replies. I was talking to a Genius Bar person today, one who seemed in charge of all the others and very experienced, and she said it didn't sound like a battery issue. Maybe something to do with the iphone, since everything on the watch goes through there. She talked about different software "builds". My current status: after getting the Series 5 (less than six months old) back from Apple Repair (and even the Genius Bar says that Apple Repair doesn't always communicate very well with them, (and, of course, the watch is the one thing the Apple Store doesn't

repair or service), I had the message "We could not duplicate the problem" (even though they only had it for a day) and "We can't do anything if the watch has more than 80% battery strength - a pretty weird comment. I guess they did their version of diagnostics and I got it back and restored it from a previous version (not from scratch, which hadn't worked before). It seemed like some magical repair had happened. It acted normal. But then, every once in a while, it would stay at 99% all day. I still put it on the charger twice a day. I wake up this a.m. and it's dead, after saying 100% at 10pm. Put it on the charger and it zoomed back up to 100% in 20 minutes.

I have the same problem. The watch (series 4) displays 100% for over 12 hours. I try to use apps to kill battery, but it doesn’t move. After a while, it ticks down and dies at 80%. I put it on the charger and it says 12%, and within 30 minutes, it “charges” to 100%.

Apple ran diagnostics and the battery is fine. So my options are wait and hope for an update, send it back for $300 and get it back but if the machine does not see a problem then i get it back unrepaired and lost the money, or trade it in for $100 and buy a new one. Absolutely ridiculous to buy a premium product and have subpar service. I’ve had the watch for 15 months, i expect so much more from apple

I have the same issue with my AW5. After a few days it would stay at 100% for longer and longer. Sometimes 6-7 hours. The longer it stays at 100% the higher percentage it will just die at. So if it stays at 100% for 8 hours it will die at about 25%. The battery is lasting like it should as I get a good 30 hours or so out of it. The problem is I never know when its going to die if I didn't pay attention to how long it stays at 100. I took the watch to the Genus bar. They ran diagnostics and sent it off to Apple. Apple sent it back saying they could not duplicate the issue. I was excited when I got a call the the store had lost my watch. They gave me a brand new one out of the box. Now this one is starting to do the same thing. At this point I'm pretty convinced its some sort of software issue on how it meters the battery. Hopefully tit will be fixed in a software update.

I am so grateful to learn that getting a new watch doesn't solve the problem. They told me at my Apple store (Kenwood, Cincinnati) that I couldn't even use my Applecare to replace the watch, since Repair couldn't "duplicate the problem." Kind of like Applecare was just for what they can fix in the store (everything but the watch). Interesting idea about trying to just leave it on the charger all day. Mine has said 100% all day long and it said 99% when I got up this morning. I'm going to put it on the charger for 14 hours and see if it makes a difference.

I have the same problem with AW5 stuck on 100% and battery errors.

Bought first in October and within a few days battery stuck on 100%.

Brought it to Apple store and the test says battery was OK so they offered to send it off for repair.

Since I had just bought it I said I will just return it.

So they replaced it with a new AW5.

Yesterday the same problem recurred.

Stuck on 100% and then just shuts off.

This morning this started getting weirder - ran down to 77% then shut off.

Put it on charger and when it came alive showed 13% and it charged to 99% in 30 minutes...thats not right.

Contacted Apple support chat and they had nothing to offer but the usual.

So off to the Apple store tomorrow ....again.

I will ask for a refund...don't want to try a third watch...jamais deux sans trois.

And yes I tried all the fixes...many times and nothing work.

I let mine sit at 100 percent for several hours then shut it completely off for 15 min. When I turned it back on it was at 85 percent where I felt it should be. It now seems to be correct but I’m sure that will change over time. For those with this issue try powering off completely for 15 min after it’s been stuck at 100 for awhile and see what happens.
